{"id":181544,"date":"2025-08-07T15:49:16","date_gmt":"2025-08-07T15:49:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/linuxiac.com\/?p=181544"},"modified":"2025-08-07T18:07:04","modified_gmt":"2025-08-07T18:07:04","slug":"ubuntu-24-04-3-lts-released-with-bug-fixes-and-security-updates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/linuxiac.com\/ubuntu-24-04-3-lts-released-with-bug-fixes-and-security-updates\/","title":{"rendered":"Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS Released with Bug Fixes and Security Updates"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Almost six months after its previous <a href=\"https:\/\/linuxiac.com\/ubuntu-24-04-2-lts-released\/\">24.04.2 LTS release<\/a>, the Ubuntu team has announced the general availability of Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS (powered by Linux kernel 6.14), the third maintenance update in the <a href=\"https:\/\/linuxiac.com\/ubuntu-24-04-lts-noble-numbat\/\">Nomble Numbat<\/a> series, initially launched in April 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regarding core system fixes, the update brings improved installation reliability, particularly for specialized hardware. CD images now include fixes for RISC-V builds, addressing issues with device trees and kernel compatibility. Additionally, the Hardware Enablement stack is now properly enabled for 24.04.2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Key fixes include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Live CD build failures when using the lowlatency-hwe-24.04 kernel.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Better IPv4\/IPv6 networking configuration during early boot.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>U-Boot updates for RISC-V devices, improving compatibility with Pine64 Star64 and DeepComputing FML13V01 boards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/linuxiac.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/ubuntu24043-desktop.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/linuxiac.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/ubuntu24043-desktop-1024x640.jpg\" alt=\"Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS\" class=\"wp-image-181562\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxiac.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/ubuntu24043-desktop-1024x640.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/linuxiac.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/ubuntu24043-desktop-380x238.jpg 380w, https:\/\/linuxiac.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/ubuntu24043-desktop-768x480.jpg 768w, https:\/\/linuxiac.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/ubuntu24043-desktop-1536x960.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/linuxiac.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/ubuntu24043-desktop.jpg 1680w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On the desktop front, there are multiple stability and accessibility improvements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Nautilus (file manager) crashes have been patched.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mutter (GNOME\u2019s window manager) received numerous backports to fix Wayland crashes, touchscreen drag-and-drop issues, and multi-monitor glitches\u2014particularly for NVIDIA GPU users.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>GTK4 updates now support Unicode 16 emoji and improve screen reader (Orca) compatibility.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PipeWire audio fixes eliminate duplicated audio samples after silent periods.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For server admins and cloud users, Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cloud-init improvements for AWS IMDS compatibility and MAAS (Metal-as-a-Service) deployments.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>QEMU and libvirt updates bring better RISC-V emulation and s390x boot order support.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Snapd now handles auto-refresh failures more gracefully, preventing system lock-ups.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Apart from the changes mentioned above,\u00a0AppArmor fixes\u00a0preventing policy load failures and\u00a0kernel vulnerabilities patched\u00a0across all supported flavors (AWS, Azure, GCP, and Oracle). Plus, on the accessibility front, users get better keyboard navigation in lists and improved screen reader announcements in the update manager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lastly, it&#8217;s worth noting that this release integrates all security patches from Ubuntu Security Notice 3, covering vulnerabilities disclosed up to August 4, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To transition to the new release, current 24.04 LTS users need only to execute the well-known <code>sudo apt update &amp; sudo apt upgrade<\/code> command.
