{"id":179990,"date":"2025-07-29T08:19:35","date_gmt":"2025-07-29T08:19:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/linuxiac.com\/?p=179990"},"modified":"2025-07-29T08:24:15","modified_gmt":"2025-07-29T08:24:15","slug":"dietpi-9-15-lands-with-debian-trixie-upgrade-script","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/linuxiac.com\/dietpi-9-15-lands-with-debian-trixie-upgrade-script\/","title":{"rendered":"DietPi 9.15 Lands with Debian Trixie Upgrade Script"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Over a month after the <a href=\"https:\/\/linuxiac.com\/dietpi-9-14-adds-gzdoom-expands-support-to-orange-pi-5-ultra\/\">9.14 release<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/dietpi.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DietPi<\/a>, a lightweight, performance-focused Debian-based Linux distribution for SBCs (such as Raspberry Pi) and server systems (with option to install desktop environments), has just unveiled its latest iteration, version 9.15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This update adds support for the Orange Pi 3 non-LTS model, catering to users of this affordable ARM board who previously lacked official DietPi backing. Additionally, DietPi introduces a seamless upgrade script to transition Debian 12 (Bookworm) users smoothly to <a href=\"https:\/\/linuxiac.com\/debian-13-set-to-launch-on-august-9\/\">Debian 13 (Trixie)<\/a>, similar to the existing Bullseye-to-Bookworm transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, following the improvements in the last release for NanoPi routers, the NanoPi R5C now joins the party with statically assigned MAC addresses for its onboard Ethernet adapters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DietPi-Display tool also received some attention. It now remembers previously applied settings instead of resetting them on restart\u2014handy for multi-display setups, especially on Raspberry Pi, where rotation settings sometimes apply globally. Plus, GRUB support has been expanded to work across all architectures, not just specific setups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the gaming front, the Moonlight game streaming client is now unlocked for all ARM and RISC-V boards (except ARMv6 Raspberry Pi models). Please note that performance depends on KMS and V4L2 driver support, so your results may vary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s also worth noting that the lightweight DNS resolver Unbound sees two key changes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>DietPi now provides its own up-to-date Unbound packages, though they\u2019re not yet auto-served via the APT repo.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No more monthly root hints downloads\u2014turns out, DNS root servers don\u2019t change often enough to justify the cron job, and dropping it removes a minor security risk.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Lastly, as always, DietPi squashed a handful of pesky bugs, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>File Browser password length conflicts (now auto-adjusted, but longer passwords are still encouraged)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>APT failures on Debian Bullseye<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>DietPi-Dashboard install glitches on Raspberry Pi 5 and RISC-V<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Refer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/dietpi.com\/docs\/releases\/v9_15\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">release announcement<\/a> for a detailed overview of all changes.
