Linux Mint 22.1 “Xia”<\/a>\u00a0is now out, so I’m sure many of you are eager to upgrade from\u00a0Mint 22 “Wilma”<\/a>\u00a0to take advantage of all the new version has to offer, including the new Cinnamon 6.4<\/a> desktop environment. I’ll just say this\u2014you’ve come to the right place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, let\u2019s do it together, ensuring that your transition to Mint 22.1 is successful and enriches your computing experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1: Take System Backup<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Although it is optional, this step is highly recommended<\/strong>, so please take a system snapshot before you proceed by using the Timeshift app. This way, if something goes wrong, you can restore your system to its previous state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 2: Update All Software<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Open the Update Manager application and click the “Refresh<\/em>” button. A message will show you that the “mint-upgrade-info<\/em><\/strong>” package\u2014essential for opening the upgrade path to the 22.1 “Xia” release\u2014is ready to be updated. Click “Apply the Update<\/em>” to proceed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, disable your screensaver, and if you installed some additional Cinnamon spices such as applets, desklets, extensions, or themes, upgrade them from the System Settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 3: Upgrade to Linux Mint 22.1 from 22<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Everything is now in place to begin the upgrade to Linux Mint 22.1. Here\u2019s our Linux Mint 22 \u201cWilma\u201d system before upgrading to Mint 22.1 \u201cXia.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go back to the Update Manager app and choose the \u201cEdit<\/em>\u201d menu, where you will find the newly appeared \u201cUpgrade to Linux Mint 22.1 Xia<\/em>\u201d option. Click on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the \u201cRequirements<\/em>\u201d screen, tick the checkbox confirming that you know the risks and click the \u201cApply<\/em>\u201d button to proceed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new pop-up prompts you to enter your user’s password. Enter it and click the “Authenticate<\/em>” button to confirm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The actual upgrade process to Linux Mint 22.1 “Xia” will start. Downloading and installing the updates will take some time; be patient and wait for the process to complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the process is finished, the Update Manager will notify you that the upgrade has succeeded. So, you can safely close the window now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
