As a recommendation for a Linux (GNU/Linux) user who must preserve the work achieved with this system, I agree with this advice for choosing a reliable distribution.
But I think it’s worth remembering that projects often start from the persistent idea of a single person. Does anyone remember how a man named Linus Torvalds started a personal project called Freax… Or the idea of another person named Ian Ashley Murdock, who started with a founding manifesto…
On the other hand, and although it seems like an exception, we have the case of a company like Intel Corporation, which is abandoning the Clear Linux project, a rolling release Linux distribution.
These are facts for reflection.

I agree with Debian. It truly is the only general-purpose distribution. Not sure about openSUSE Leap, too niece for most people to pick over Debian, and Debian offers different branches for those who want newer packages (testing, sid, trixie).

Thank-you for naming Debian number one. A Debian user since 2000. I distro-hopped several (RPM,Suse, even ubuntu- it was a bad time there). Ubuntu does not follow the original neck-beard way..Debian does!! I do KDE. Some said that debian does not do that, I say B.S. Debian does almost ALL. The newer full Debian DVD ISO have a multi desktop choice at install. This fact is not totally known. That fact is in the article. Debian lets you remove your display manager and not destroy your system. But Wayland is a major problem, removal will get you a Borked system.
